Mason/Dixon indie rockers laying down tongue in cheek tracks tackling religion are like backrubs from your girlfriend- it can become a little too expected, but when all's said and done? Shit yeah.
North Carolina's Israel Darling have been sitting in my inbox for weeks, unlistened, because frankly the name made me think they were gonna be some Matisyahu bullshit. Instead, it was my pleasure to find of one of the more promising debuts of the summer in their Dinosaur Bones and Mechanical Hands (available 8/4 via Engine Room Recordings), and the jangly, regretful "Samson the Mason", linked below.
Dinosaur Bones... gets NYC tour support @ Pianos in Manhattan 8/11 and at Spike Hill in Brooklyn 8/12 before rolling on to MA & PA in the following days and weeks.
