Fleet Foxes' self titled '08 LP was great for two reasons. One, it was just great, you big dummy. Go 'way iffun you don't like it. Two, it was so confident and comfortable with one foot forward and one foot in the past- like the first time you listen to a Neil Young record of your father's and struggle to reconcile that there was a time that it spoke to him the way it's speaking to you in that first moment of listening. Fleet Foxes never waste time paying homage to wanderers like Fleetwood Mac or CSNY, those who have come before- they're too busy wandering themselves.
The crew at Sound of the Sound recently made available a complete recording of a Robin Pecknold solo show (7/11 @ Neumo's in Seattle), and I swear it's that kind of mellifluous beautiful that makes you wistful for things that haven't happened yet. Two standouts from the set below.
Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes "Dreams" (Fleetwood Mac Cover)
Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes "Two Headed Boy" (Neutral Milk Hotel Cover)
