Around the office, I get my fair share of slack jawed "wait wait- you're how old?"s. When I hear about 24 year old millionaires like Mark Zuckerberg, it doesn't get me down the way it would if he were younger than I am. 24 is still in the future for me, so even the admittedly unlikely possibility of my being a millionaire by then is still exactly that: a possibility. Now, that might sound like a daydream to some, but Goddammit I need to justify my crippling Keno addition one way or another. And nobody likes Mark Zuckerberg.
So while Zach Condon- the creative force behind Santa Fe's Beirut- may not be a millionaire, it's hard for me not adopt a little of that "wait wait- you're how old?" attitude myself. With two albums and four EPs of large-hearted cultural reverie under his belt by age 23, Condon's weathered sound of European exoticism is timeless, thoughtful, and a fine reminder of how super, super badly I've wasted my life to date. HOORAISINS.
Ups to STV SLV and ABX, a.k.a. Chicago's Hood Internet, celebrating two years of playlist slaying indie bootleg thuggery this month.
