I'm such a sucker for the sights and sensations of dirtied October suburbia that I've half a mind to move to Portland, start smoking opium, and open a shop that sells beeswax candles wrapped in oiled brown paper.
Maybe this is why I responded so well to Martin de Thurrah's video for Fever Ray's "When I Grow Up" upon it's release last month- not to diminish the musical component, but as brilliant as The Knife (of which Ray, a.k.a. Karin Dreijer Andersson is one half of) may be, I assosciate the band as much with their distinct visual aesthetic as I do their paranoid trance rock. Peep Thurrah's video:
Courtesy of Sweden's Dan Lissvik today, an imminently slow-danceable remix of the above track. I can't decide whether Lissvik's addition of a playful pan flute hook is more Alphaville or Toto-esque, but when it comes to naked Swedish music about leaving dog-eyed lovers in the dust, a little levity is a welcome thing in any case.
