(In order to both apologize for the inactivity around here and combat this week's SXSW coverage elsewhere on the internet, am.fm.pm is hosting NXNY -New By New York: the Halfass Online Arts Festival- all week. Lots of content, ham-fisted metaphors galore. If you'd like to contribute a post or feature on your own blog, steal the above banner, send me a link, and I'll plug you here.)
Over @ Mind Blowing Wonderfulness, Jeff's St. Patrick's Day NXNY installment is all about music from a little corner of the globe we've all come to associate with this holiday: Canada. Here today, I'll be getting back to am.fm.pm's bread and butter: the mashup. With fresh playlist essentials from Zebra and Yold, as well as a full length Justice mash LP for 'yall, we've prepped a stiff mustardayonnaise whiskey chaser. BREAK!
Bootie Paris superstar DJ Reno dropped his Justice tribute compilation Across The Universe of Mashup earlier this month, and while you may be inclined to roll your eyes at your friendly neighborhood Spider-blogger for pushing still more re-ups featuring Gerard and Xavier, I ask you to hold your tongue. In collecting, remixing, and mastering the best mashes borne of †, Reno has dropped a definitive Justice mix- the final word to every NYU student making weed money by laptop DJing their friends' dreary art shows. Hit up a live mixed album standout courtesy of Sebwax, and D/L the album in it's entirety below.
Sebwax "Song 2 Dance" (Blur vs. Justive - Live Reno Edit)
DJ Reno - Across The Universe of Mashup LP
To me, Bob Marley has always been like those "99" brand fruit schnapps: in theory, really fun, but then I do a shot and I'm like "GAAAAHHHHHI'm all set".
So all the more respect to Zebra for this track then.
DJ Zebra - This Tainted Love (Bob Marley vs. Soft Cell)
The winter prior to my moving to New York, I listened to Silent Alarm and Silent Alarm only. To my then 20 year old ears, Bloc Party's angular guitar panic was the sound of what lay ahead for me trying to drown out my immediate surroundings, and despite "Helicopter" being driven into the ground, the album remains a sentimental favorite.
And thankfully, it WAS Silent Alarm that I wrapped myself in and not 07's epically depressive A Weekend in the City, because if it was, I'd instead now be living in a very deep hole that I'd dug in my parent's backyard.
Yold - It's Bigger Than A Prayer (Dead Prez vs. Bloc Party)
Keep it @ am.fm.pm through the week.
NXNY Day Two! Mashstravaganza!
