In addition to not having written anything for this blog in almost two weeks, I've been listening to a leaked copy of Bat For Lashes' Two Suns pretty much non stop. A raw, confident follow up to to 2007's Fur and Gold, Two Suns continues the ASCAP Vanguard Award winner's unironic acknowledgment of depression's inherent coolness while never quite wearing her heart on her sleeve- track for track, the disk's juxtaposition of semi-acoustic melody and thunderous percussion balance delicacy and danger like the slow burn of an unattended cigarette, and the album's first single, a steely stunner titled "Daniel" makes for one hell of a nicer personal lullaby when sung by the gorgeous Natasha Khan instead of Elton John or the motley stalwarts of my local Irish pub. Two Suns is summer bummer music of the best variety, a PJ Harvey heavy mixtape from an ex that you listen to on an overcast August evening.
Bat For Lashes' Two Suns will be available April 6th. "Daniel" is available now via iTunes. Below, a boss Boss cover performed Khan on PRI's Fair Game with Faith Salie.

I always thought the Boss's line was "Cut a 6 inch valley thru the middle of my SKULL" not "soul." Am I wrong or did Natasha change the lyric?
