Admittedly, the only thing we actually get to hear from Trent this time is 'Echoplex', already released on his most recent free download, The Slip. Attempting again to give a boost to artists he himself enjoys, Reznor has posted a download sampler, all DRM-free and high quality, of the supporting acts of his upcoming tour, featuring tracks from Deerhunter, A Place to Bury Strangers, Does it Offend You, Yea? and Crystal Castles (be sure to check out 'Alice Practice') as well as a whole slew of wallpapers, icons, and a printable poster. Even though Saul William's "Niggy Tardust" was a favorite at the AM.FM.PM. office, it diddnt seem to work out that well for the people involved - only 18% of downloaders paid for it, and they apparently had difficulty making their production costs back. Still, with the amazing success of Ghosts, it does look worthwhile to try that particular kind of venture again: while major acts like Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead may be able to make a heady profit on downloads, that kid next door with the dime bag and acoustic guitar cannot. Still, one has to respect Reznor's attempts to lift lesser known acts up with his own success - it'll work eventually.
