Clearly having received our press releases at the same time, it kills me that Stereogum beat me to posting this. But 'yall can have ats anyways. Dan The Automator Nakamura's latest re-pairs the epic San Fransican with drummer Russell Simins of The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion-(Automator helmed production on plenty of JSBX tracks in the past) to yield Men Without Pants, the greatest name since, well, Russell Simins.
Still in studio with their first album due out this June via NYC's Expansion Team Records, the label was good enough to send me along the road-trippy single "And The Girls Go". Though I usually don't care for unsolicited press releases, I lurves me some Men Without Pants. Some have given Nakamura grief for his more recent bombastic pop output, and make no mistake, the song falls very much in that melodic line. But Dan's real strength has always been as a collaborative artist, and it's great fun to hear him building and breaking proper with an imaginative percussionist at his side.
Give a listen to Men Without Pants + some bonus Automator production gems below.
