Today's am.fm.pm mixtape is sitting in a padded manilla envelope underneath a fruit basket on the desk of Harvey Weinstein. It's from a former Massachusetts boy made good- Troy Duffy, writer and director of The Boondock Saints and star of Overnight. Live it up on Sunday night everybody, but you'd best have that cell phone busy by dawn.
Long time no chat, Bro! What's the happs? For starters, congratulations on Sicko. Really man, you deserve every bit of credit for that film. I know we've both got our fingers crossed for a win on Sunday. I mean, wow, awards season, am I right? Awards season is like Christmas and Halloween all in one for us picture folk, you know? Makes you think about the good old times. Ha! Ohhh ha ha, Harvey! Do you remember Cannes? I can recall no more wonderful thing than that weekend we spent in the sun dappled Mediterranean, friend. Ohhhhh, good times Harv, good times.
Do you remember why we were even there? Because I don't! Nope Harvey, not a thing. Who's got the time to dwell on memories when we've all such bright futures ahead? Though I do suppose, what with our attending a certain film festival in that fresh aired villa, we must have been there on business! Ah, business. You've always been a company man, Harvey, something I could never relate to. I've always been something of an artist. Probably one of those "opposites attract" sort of things.
You know, I'm one of those... creative types. Why, I've even directed a feature film in my day! A feature film that I showcased at that very same Film Festival that very same year! Funny, I don't think I can even remember what it was called! Oh Harvey, the mind does slip in it's autumn years! What was it, it was the... the... the sai.. the sain.. boo sai... the boo sai...the boond sai.. boondo sain... t? Tuh ? Kuh? Was there a hard "T" or a hard "K" at the end of it Harvey? Either of those consonants ring a bell? The Boondo...cK! Sain... TS! HUH, HARVEY!?
Okay, no more beating around the bush: I need work. Don't be a dick, bro. It stopped being funny a long time ago. I need you to grow up, because I need work. Bad. Shit got bad, man. Let's put the past where it belongs and get back in business together. I figured I'd remind you of just what Troy Duffy has to offer.
Included on the Zip disk in this envelope you will find:
- A joint investment proposal for acquisition of a well trafficked Dracut Massachusetts Dairy Queen franchise.
- Two separate 25 page treatments for possible DTV projects Lucky Number Sleight and Lucky Number Sline. (The totally badass ending of Lucky Number Sline leaves the door open for Lucky Number Slen.)
- Twelve Awards Season Super Jams.
- And the letter stapled to the back of this letter is from Claude, my shift supervisor at the Eckerd. We don't really have any Eckerd stationary, and they watch over the prescription pads like fucking haws, so Claude just used some notepaper.
Okay. Cool. Read the treatments. Good to catch up. And uh, just gonna throw it out there: Boondock Saints Anime series? Thoughts? Okay. Great. Work work work!
